Due to the increasingly dominant use of WeChat among Chinese Americans, New Mainstream Media has devoted a full time team on developing and managing our own public accounts on WeChat since 2014. Our WeChat account PhillyGuide has become the official living guide for over 30,000 local Chinese followers. WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by Tencent in China, first released in January 2011.  It is the largest standalone messaging app by monthly active users. As of August 2015, WeChat has over One billion active users, with 70 million outside of China.

More and more Chinese in the U.S. and abroad are using WeChat because of the inaccessibility of many global social media platforms in China like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. WeChat provides great opportunities for the Chinese living in the U.S., Chinese travelers, and their families to keep in touch.

Besides messaging, users can share photos and moments just like on Facebook and Twitter, which friends can repost, comment, or like. Also, they can share on their walls the posts created by our pubic account PhillyGuide.
